Care Guide
BRASS CARE
At IHUNAYA, we are dedicated to promoting and encouraging the love of age-old African craftsmanship. Brass is a much loved material for African artisans and popular choice for creating their intricate and beautiful pieces.
However, brass changes colour over time. To enjoy your pieces for years to come, here are some tips for caring for brass pieces.
Brass Care using Lemon
STEP 1 - Create a mixture with the juice of 1 squeezed lemon, 3 tablespoons of water and 1 teaspoon of salt.
STEP 2 - Submerge your brass jewellery in the mixture for 15-30 minutes, stirring periodically.
STEP 3 - Use a cloth to remove the tarnish then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Brass Care using Metal Polish (Brasso)
Please note, metal polishes have a strong industrial smell. Polishing should be done outside to avoid inhaling the chemicals. You may also use gloves to avoid the smell lingering on your hands.
STEP 1 - Find a small rag and pour about a teaspoon worth of the chemical on it.
STEP 2 - Cover chemically-soaked cloth over your brass pieces and polish until it shines.
